Early in the life of this site, I chose a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license for the material I posted here. Later, I released all material posted here into the public domain, wanting to align my professional and non-professional writing. (Any writing I performed as a federal employee from 2006 to 2012 was in the public domain, owned by American taxpayers.) As I look at it now, that wasn’t the best decision: while various forms of online writing may open up professional opportunities (as blogging has done for me), those forms aren’t necessarily the same thing as professional writing, as Steve Krause has smartly observed. For that reason, I’ve decided to change things back to the way they were: any material posted by me on this site after January 20 2008 falls again under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 United States License.
